wear your love like heaven

Today I...

...wrote a crap paper about heroism and Beowulf.

...got dressed in record time and caught the bus to get to class late even though I originally planned to skip Intro to the English Major today.

...suddenly remembered that Sen. John Edwards was going to be on campus today!

...got kicked off the roof of the EMU (not as dramatic as it sounds - I was standing with some people on the other side of the railing from the upper patio/balcony where we could have seen Sen. Edwards, but I guess that bit isn't as reinforced as the patio.)

...skipped the first half of the class where my paper was due in favor of seeing Sen. Edwards.

Not that it mattered. I got there before he gave the weekly quiz and was able to turn in my paper just fine. I got last week's back, too. Prof. Earl didn't give a grade, though, just wrote "Very good! Great start!" on it. And circled the two times I used the word "ineffable." (OED says: adj: That cannot be expressed or described in language; too great for words; transcending expression; unspeakable, unutterable, inexpressible.) It's one of my favorite words to use with religion.

And of course, the stone cold irony of the day is that, while rushing around trying to get dressed before the bus came, I grabbed the clean shirt at the top of the drawer. I had totally forgotten that tonight was a debate night or that Edwards would be around, and yet I still managed to wear my "Educators for Kerry" shirt.

Also, I just ordered the "Found" book and the UK version of About a Boy from Powells.com (hey, I had a coupon code from the order of books I got today (all for classes) AND the code of the giftcard Mom got for working on the Oregonian's Geography Awareness Week insert). There is very little I don't love about that bookstore.

Next purely-pleasure purchases I plan to make (if I ever scrounge up some money): The Scary Go Round books and that "In case of alarm, swoon" shirt if John A gives in to flattery and makes it.
